Gel Sensory Bags
My kids love just about anything that is squishy. Texture is a big deal for kids, and they love exploring new textures. Touch and texture help develop motor skills. Having children trace or write shapes, numbers, or letters in or on something with texture, such as sand, helps build connections for them through multisensory practice, when we are engaging at least three of the senses at the same time. Using these Gel Sensory Bags for skills in letter or number formation can also build on thinking and creativity skills, as well as sensory awareness.
The best part is, they are cheap and easy to make!
Tools You Will Need
Gallon Ziplock Bags
Hair Gel (I just found the cheapest on Amazon)
Food Coloring (gel or liquid)
Directions
Use the alcohol to remove the labels on the ziplock bags. This was surprisingly effortless and very satisfying. Ha!
Spoon some of the gel into the bag. I didn’t measure it, so all three of the bags turned out a little different, but you can always add more!
NOTE*
With the gel I bought (two 35 oz jars), it only took about 3/4 of one of the containers to make three bags.
Add food coloring and seal the bag making sure all the air is removed.
I let me kids mix them up, and they loved that.
Just like that, you’re done!
Now it’s time to write away! My kids have loved using these as an additional tool in our homeschooling. It has made practicing our letters, numbers, and shapes so fun!
